Students on Duke-In Programs

For Duke and Non-Duke students participating in Duke-Administered Programs

In case of emergency, notify the following:

  1. Local authorities (if appropriate)
  2. On-site program director; if unavailable, contact Duke Police at 919-684-2444
  3. Your family

The on-site program director or Duke Police will initiate Duke emergency protocols by notifying the Global Education Office for Undergraduates (GEO) about the emergency.

Students on Duke-Approved Programs

For Duke students participating in programs administered by universities and providers external to Duke

In case of emergency, notify the following:

  1. Local authorities (if appropriate)
  2. On-site program director
  3. Your family
  4. Duke’s Global Education Office for Undergraduates (GEO)

GEO will usually learn of the emergency situation from the relevant program provider and will then help resolve the situation as needed. However, if for some reason you can’t get in touch with your program’s support staff, GEO will do what it can to assist you.

GEO can be reached at 919-684-2174 during business hours (Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., EST). After hours, please contact the Duke Police at 919-684-2444. The police will contact the GEO director on call, who will then reach out to you.

Parents & Families

Should parents and families wish to contact GEO, please call 919-684-2174 during business hours (Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., EST). After hours, contact the Duke Police at 919-684-2444. The police will then initiate contact with the GEO director on call.

U.S. State Department Services

The U.S. Government may be able to offer assistance to U.S. citizens experiencing difficulties overseas. Information about these services can be found on the State Department’s website.
